ISBN and ISSN – Barcodes for Books and Magazines

The EAN-13 and UPC-A Barcodes we supply are not suited for printed publications such as books and Magazines.

Books use the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) format.  ISBNs are numbers exclusively reserved by the ISBN agency for printed publications.  To apply for an ISBN for your book please visit https://nielsenbook.co.uk/isbn-agency/

Magazines, journals and newspapers use the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) format.  To apply for an ISSN for your serialised publication please visit https://www.bl.uk/help/Get-an-ISBN-or-ISSN-for-your-publication

Once you have obtained your ISBN or ISSNs you’ll need a barcode image that encodes your ISBN/ISSN so it can be displayed on the publication’s cover and used to scan the publication at P.O.S.  Barcode Bird provides barcode image generation services for holders of ISBN/ISSNs.  Our barcode images are correctly formatted and are guaranteed to scan first time, every time at a fraction of the cost of using GS1 affiliated companies.  Email us at contact@barcodebird.co.uk to obtain a quotation.
